Our Story

Our journey begins with Charles R. Sligh, my great-great-grandfather, who founded Sligh Furniture in 1880 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  For over a century, our family’s legacy was rooted in crafting high-quality wood furniture from the very heart of West Michigan. The Michigan plants thrived until the mid-2000s when they closed, and the company was eventually sold in 2011.

My father was a Sligh Furniture sales representative for over 20 years and helped carry on the family tradition along with his brother. Our family furniture lineage includes four generations - my great-great grandfather, great-grandfather, great uncles, grandfather, uncle, and my Dad —all connected by a shared passion for craftsmanship and high quality.  Furniture isn’t just a business; it’s woven into our heritage.

There is a sense of pride with seeing our family name emblazoned on furniture from the past and in 2021, we began seeking out vintage Sligh Furniture pieces for our own homes, some of which we had refinished.

In 2023, our personal collection expanded beyond nostalgia and we saw an opportunity to not only breathe new life into these iconic pieces but share them with others.  In early 2024, I made the decision to leave my 17 year sales career to dive into the furniture refinishing business with my Dad and build on our family legacy and the legacies of other furniture families from West Michigan and beyond.  Our goal isn’t merely restoration and refinishing; it’s honoring the stories within each piece.  As we revive them or transform them into modernized classics, we pay homage to the craftsmen who once poured their skill and love into every joint and curve.

Welcome to Legacy Restored—where history meets elegance. These pieces aren’t just furniture; they’re tributes to artisans of the past, waiting to grace new homes and captivate future generations.  They don’t make furniture like they used to, but we’re here to prove that some legacies are timeless.
